Memorial Day

These heroes are dead. They died for liberty – they died for us. They are at rest. They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars – they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead. — Robert G. Ingersoll

Thank you.

Well, somebody's gotta do it...

Today is cleaning, laundry and organization day at my house.  I am going to reward myself by sewing all day tomorrow.  Because I have plans to sew tomorrow, I will also be making a quick trip to Burkholder's for necessary supplies.  I guess I am going to reward myself today, too!

My plan for the day...

My babies live far away so I am going to celebrate Mother's Day having dinner with my mother this evening. Most of the rest of my day will be doing the thing I like best - sewing.  I just saw this pattern on the Moda site and I happen to have an extra couple of layer cakes.

This looks pretty mindless to me and mindless is what I want to be today!  Happy Mother's Day to all of you  mamas out there!!

Have a Jelly Roll?

I just saw this on Moda's site.

Jiffy Jelly Quilt by Moda
Unroll the Jelly Roll (but don't open the fold), quick cuts, fast assembly line piecing and you have a quilt top.  Check it out!

Coming soon!

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you will remember that I often mention my "quilty" sister.  Her name is Julie and she is, without a doubt, the most creative person I know.  I truly don't think there is anything that she can't replicate, sew, craft or decorate.  Seriously.  Additionally, she is a great teacher and is phenomenal working with children.  For about 5 years she has been running summer "camps" for children out of her home.  It has been her dream to have a place to create, teach and inspire and in just a few weeks her dream will come true!

The classrooms are spacious, bright and cheerful.  Brand new Bernina sewing machines are featured in the sewing classroom.  The kitchen has lots of counter space for creating all sorts of bakery treats.  The largest classroom can be used for sewing, quilting, painting and all kinds of crafting but will also be available for parties.  Julie will be bringing in additional teachers for special events and opportunities for learning.  I already know that I will be taking classes there!

Her website is still getting some tweaking but the summer camp registration form is working and camps are starting to fill up. The grand opening is June 8th during the "Taste of Wernersville".  If you or someone you know lives in the Reading, Pennsylvania area and would like more information, please call or contact her through the website.

Shopping with Suzan

Remember this Moda fabric?

Moda Layer Cake - Northcote Range by Cabbages & Roses

It's Northcote Range from Cabbages and Roses (a designer for Moda). I have a brand spanking new layer cake of this fabric and it is taking up space in the studio.  I have decided this is another fabric collection that I just will never use and  it is going to be part of my "clear the decks" fabric sale.  I will send you the layer cake, shipping included, for $25.00.  Again, I can only ship in the US and can only accept Paypal.

Please send me an email if you are interested and I will get it out in the mail the next day.
