My darling niece, Chelsea, just graduated from Shippensburg University and has decided to move to Tampa, Florida. She was checking out a Vera Bradley hanging make up organizer for $48. She asked if I could make her something like it. Well, sure I can! I didn't put a handle on it so it will fit better into her suitcase or travel bag and mine isn't quite as long but I think it turned out really cute!
She wanted zebra fabric so I found some at Joann's that was perfect for the bag (and on sale!). I made a little fabric rose to cover the stitching where I attached the velcro. The interior is a poly blend fabric that can be wiped off and has a bit of sheen to it.
I should have filled the bottom pouch so you can see that it is about 2" deep. The upper ones are fairly flat. To finish it a little more professionally, I threaded narrow black ribbon through the zipper eyes. I am also giving her a little carabiner to snap through the "d" ring so that she can hang it from a towel bar.
I used a Kwik Sew pattern , 3748, as a guide. I wasn't crazy about some of the construction and I do not like working with bias tape. The next time I make a similar bag I will use some other techniques that I much prefer for a nice finished edge. All in all, I think this was a pretty successful project!
It looks great in the pictures - but I bet it looks super fantastic in person...I am sure both of you are very well pleased with the recults.
