Need some advice

A friend has asked me to make a table runner as a gift for her mother.  She selected the fabric below and I have absolutely no idea how to quilt it!IMG_7688 It is just the two pieces of fabric and nothing else.  I am under the impression that her mother’s taste is contemporary.  So, here is today’s challenge question:  How would you quilt it?  The border is about 3” finished and the center portion is roughly 12” wide.  I know it looks wrinkly in the photo but the borders are squared off.  I am ready to do this since she has to have it by Mother’s Day…and I have to mail it.
I am open to any and all suggestions.  Thanks!!

It’s official!

The only photos so far have been sent to my cell phone so I don’t have anything to show you.  Andrew is on his way home from the hospital!!  I am giddy beyond belief.

There really is nothing more to be said except “Thanks be to God!”

Oh yes I did!

‘Member me saying that I was making a baby quilt last weekend?  Well, I finished it!  Lots of quilters have been showing quilts with sort of straight line quilting.  I did a moderately wavy line.  It was pretty time consuming since I have the lines fairly close together but it was easy feeding through the machine.  The big downside was the amount of thread I used.

I love this fabric.  If you look closely you can see the different bug motifs but at a quick glance, it just looks like pretty fabric.  I really like crisp, white Kona cotton with the “Flutterby”.  I think it looks too feminine for a boy so I can’t give this one to Drew.  Next girl baby gets this one!

The Society of Sexy Sewing Sisters is going to my sister’s beach house this weekend.  Those lucky ladies that don’t work outside the home are staying a few extra days.  The “working” sisters are headed back home on Sunday.  Saturday night is “appetizer supper” and several of us are bringing wine.  This is my contribution

(I am hoping no one asks to share…)

The weather is supposed to be pretty miserable but there is a fireplace, internet connection and premium cable service.  I am taking my sewing machine but I have no idea if I will even get it out of the car!

Have a great weekend!

Baby pic

Y’all have been so kind asking about Andrew and his progress.  I truly believe in the power of prayer and there were so many people praying for our little guy.  Andrew has hit a couple of milestones.  He is over 5lbs, is no longer in an isolette and no longer is using any extra oxygen!  He is only strong enough to feed orally 3 times a day but he has the mechanics of nursing down pat.  So, without further adieu,  here he is!

Look at that smile on his face!  Every time I look at him I am reminded of God’s grace.

Needed a little sewing time…

My bedroom still needs organizing after the seasonal clothing swap, there are dished in my sink, the dining room needs to be dusted and vacuumed but I cleaned my studio so I am rewarding myself today.  I found a quilt pattern on line and since I have a variety of charm packs from which to choose, I decided to make a little quilt.  I am using Moda’s “Flutterby” and the fabric is cute…perfect for a baby quilt.  I snagged all the following graphics from Tula Pink’s blog site so you could see the fabric I am using.green.jpg

Bright, cheery and just a little bit "buggy”!  I am sashing with white Kona cotton.  I haven’t decided about the backing but I am sure I have something in my stash that will work.
Hope you had a great weekend!

Be still my heart…

Out here in the hinterlands, it takes very little to excite me.  (I LIVE for the day they deliver the Joann coupons in the mail.)  We have no Macy’s, no IKEA, no Nordstrom’s unless you drive for miles and miles and miles.  Try to imagine my excitement when I heard on the radio that they are bringing something new to the Lebanon Valley Mall.  It is going to fill the spot that JC Penney used to occupy – years ago.  (I told you – this is the hinterlands!)  We are getting a

!!!  If you read any crafting, DIY or decorating blogs, you know why I am so excited.  I am a closet crafter.  I am a closet decorator.  I like to hang plates on my walls. I like to make girly wreaths.  I like to scrapbook and knit.  (This is why I never get any quilting finished!)

The new store opens in June.  I may camp in their parking lot for opening day.

No excuses

I returned from visiting my guys in Virginia on Monday and I am finally getting around to updating my blog.  Not one lick of quilting to report though I have big plans this weekend.  I saw the cutest quilt as you go table runner that I am going to make over the weekend.  I need to make a shower gift and thought the runner would be a good addition to the gift basket.

Know how I am always making excuses for my blog photos?  Well, I decided to actually read the manual.  (I know – what a concept!)  I took a lot of photos during my visit down south and these are a few that I really do like.

IMG_7648 Look at these!  I was all artsy fartsy doing shots through the trees and close ups!

I don’t think I am ever going to be a terrific photographer.  I am happy with the progress I have made and will continue to try to improve.  I am good with that.  I will, no doubt, force you to look at more attempts in the future!
