Have a Kindle or a Nook or a Kobo?

I received a Nook Tablet for my birthday a few months ago.  While I love the convenience of having a new book to read by just downloading, books for the Nook are fairly expensive.  I know I can download at the library but there still is not much of a selection from which to choose.

About The Cheap

Not long after I received my Nook, I discovered a blog that alerted me to free books, nearly free books and special deals on books all for my Nook.  Apparently there was some sort of a problem with Barnes & Noble so they revamped and now they mostly have books for the Kindle but some days still have books for the Nook and Kobo and even the iPad.  They provide links to books for children, teens & YA, Christian and inspirational, fiction, romance, etc.  Here's the link information:  The Cheap

If you have a Kindle, you are gonna love this site!

Support Your Local Quilt Shop day!

Have you experienced the closing of a local quilt shop?  I am sure that most closings are the result of economic difficulties and the end of someone's dream.  While it is sometimes necessary to shop on line, it is important to remember local quilt shops and make an effort to support them.  Whenever I go to a new shop, even if I am unimpressed with their prices or fabric selection, I always make a purchase.  Sometimes it is only a few fat quarters but I really try to support small business enterprises when I have the opportunity.

I am very fortunate to live in an area where there are so many great local quilt shops.  Within a 30 minute drive, I can get to at least 9 quilt shops.  Of those, Burkholder's remains my favorite.  They offer a great selection of fabrics, wonderful sales and a discount to guild or sewing circle members.  (If you are "local" and need more information about Burkholder's, please leave me a comment or send me an email.)

Please stop in at a local quilt shop today or this week.

Cranky

I am just so annoyed with myself right now.  I have some pretty fabric to show you.  And projects I just finished.  Where is my phone?  I left my brand spanking new phone in Virginia last weekend.  My mother has my old camera.  Somewhere in the house is my other old camera but I cannot locate it.  My phone takes horrible photos (ANOTHER reason to get a new phone) so I can't even use that as a backup.

Pooh...just pooh.

That stinking flu!

Yes, I had the flu.  I will be getting a flu shot next year.  I had not been that sick in about 10 years.  My chest still sounds icky but I am feeling so much better.  The worst thing is that it is so draining.  I actually have been feeling like an old lady!

I have lots of projects lined up for this weekend.  I have purchased several yards of a variety of different scarf fabrics.  I love making infinity scarves.  They go together quickly, look beautiful and are big sellers.  I managed to do the first set of piecing on my new Christmas quilt and I would like very much to go from HSTs to hour glass blocks this weekend.  I think that if I don't bite off too much at one time I will not get bored and distracted.  (Then again, perhaps not.)  My son and daughter-in-law bought me a 10" compound miter saw for Christmas.  I am really anxious to build a workbench in my basement so that I can start cutting wood for a wall of board and batten!  I wonder how much I can actually cram into one weekend?

Big news in my corner of the world...

just bought the inventory of a quilt shop that closed.  Every piece of fabric is $3.99 a yard!  I had to stop in just to look.  I really didn't need any fabric.  You know how that goes...I bought about 11 yards.  I was tempted by the batiks but didn't buy any today.  I picked up some Moda, a little Henry Glass, some Free Spirit and a smidgen of Riley Blake fabrics.  The special quilting fabric cannot be purchased on line but if you are anywhere near Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania - stop in!

Happy New Year!

I have started the new year with my favorite thing to do...sew!  This morning I pieced the front and back of a bag I am making for my sister and started a new quilt for me.  I am using this tutorial from the Moda Bake Shop and this lovely fabric.

I have two layer cakes and extra yardage for borders.  Since I am doubling the "recipe" I am not sure exactly how big this quilt will be.  I could do the math but then where is the surprise?!

Dinner tonight is at my parent's home.  Pork, sauerkraut and big mounds of buttery mashed potatoes is our Pennsylvania Dutch tradition to ring in the New Year.  Anyone else eating pork and sauerkraut?
