I can't sleep...

I went to bed last night about 10. I woke up this morning about 2:15. I tried to read myself back to sleep and that didn't work so I got up about quarter 'til 3. What's quilter to do when she can't sleep? Sew!

I cut up some fat quarters of Chocolat and finished making 9 block squares for the quilt I started a year ago. I had an "ah ha" moment and decided to put full blocks of fabric between the pieced blocks. This will be queen size to fit my bed. I don't have anywhere other than my bed to lay out the design so I am going to have to sleep (or not) in the guest room until I get it finished.

I read somewhere that sleeping less than 5 hours a night increases the likelihood of weight gain. Let's see - menopause = get fat, not sleeping = get fat, depression over house shopping so I sooth myself with food = get fat. Anybody have any really big muumuus?

  1. I'm so with you on all of that. I rarely sleep more than four hours a night and over a ten year period it takes it's toll on the weight. Now after a few nights of it, I take a couple of OTC non aspirin sleep pills and make myself sleep. It's just not the same kind of sleep, but it helps. Have you tried them?

  2. It sounds like you need to discover the peaceful sleep provided by 3 mg. of melatonin. I really does work --- sometimes. I hate the effects of the pre-menopause changes, especially the inability to sleep. Usually I get sleepy right about the time the family is waking up in the morning!

What a good price for Bing cherries! They were $3.50 a lb. at Farmer's Market. I guess I should travel your direction to get the good price! LOL!

  3. Oh have I got the idea for your mumu. Ok, for halloween last year Julie's mom (this was at the quilt shop) dressed up as the Pillow Case Queen. She bought extra wide backing fabric (I hate to tell you this but it WAS Chocolat), and made it into a giant flipping pillow case. Cuff, flange and all. She left an opening in the bottom seam so that her head could come through as well as an opening in the one side. She did have to cut an opening in the other side but it worked. It looked like a giant freaking muumuu, I thought I was going to die laughing and now you bring this up?? So, when you get done with your MuMu you can later use it to back your quilt which is exactly what she did when she took it apart. I guess she even used water soluable thread so she tossed it in the washer and it was back to yardage.

  4. Boy, do I hear you. If it's any consolation, you're not alone.

Your siggie is showing up as a little red x - when I click on it I get a message telling me it's a shared IP address.

  6. Hi Suzan,
I just went through this exact same thing. I bet for about 6 years, I didn't sleep longer than 4 or 5 hours at a time. I would get up, check my email, read blogs, go back to bed, etc. etc. It was killing me! The morning we had the earthquake, (Jen was in Ohio and caused it, I think), I was at my computer and the world started shaking. I opened Louie's bedroom door,(who sleeps in a separate room because he has sleep apnea and SNORES LOUDLY), and he was awake too. After that, I crawled in bed with him and fell asleep. He uses a sleep machine (white noise) and I slept from about 5am until 9am. I didn't hear him get up and go to work! (It was Friday and I don't work on Friday's). He told me maybe I needed a noise machine.

That weekend, we went to Jen and Cindy's and we went junkin'. I told them to be on the lookout for a noise machine, and I found one! $1.99! I have slept like a baby since. You just might want to try one! I told my doctor about it and he said he uses one too...actually two. He says his wife is the one who snores!
