I know that lots of you have very nice, very expensive sewing machines. I, on the other hand, have a bunch of used, ancient machines and one fabulous Janome 1600P. A couple of years ago I bought a used machine that has cams and does some decorative stitches. Guess which decorative stitch it doesn't have? The one that looks great when you are doing applique - the blanket stitch. I covet machines with a blanket stitch - and maybe the chicken track stitch. (I am sure there is a real name for it but that's what it looks like to me!) I have a bonus coming next month. I am going to do one responsible thing with the money and then I am going to do one thing for me. Can you guess what it is?
I just have a regular ol Brother machine and I love it...
ReplyDeleteAre you getting a new machine? I am so happy for you! That is really exciting.
I can not wait to see what create!

Your going to buy a real sewing machine, with your favorite stitches?? Was I right?? What did I win?? Just joking, I have a "cheap" sewing machine. It has about 20 decorative stitches, but it's your average sewing machine. I would love to have a backup, even if it's used. ;) I love my sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to buy a Janome 6600 and not make me feel guilty when I finally get mine?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the name of the chicken scratch stitch is called a feather stitch, or faggoted stitch. I love that stitch too!1
Have a wonderful weekend!

Ooooh, fun, I never thought I'd have as many machines as I have now. I got a Brother from my mom for Christmas one year, it just didn't cut it, I too wanted the blanket stitch for applique, and the needle up/down, don't know how I ever sewed now without that. So I got a fancier Brother last year and just a couple of weeks ago, a Juki for quilting. Oh, and I have the Featherweight, that's fun once in a while. They all have their different jobs.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend that when you start sewing machine shopping you check on allbrands.com first. They have heaps of brands and good prices. I have bought two sewing machines from them and had great service and quick delivery. (Not affiliated - blah, blah, blah!) And look at the Juki machines. I love mine.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmmmm I'll take 'buy a new machine' Alex.....
ReplyDeleteGiggle! I know exactly what you mean! I have several machines but they are just regular Brother machines from Walmart! Then several years ago, I needed the blanket stitch for applique....giggle....headed to Walmart spent $179 on a machine that has tons of stitches but I made sure that it had the blanket stitch!!! Any ideas on what you are going to get??

So, what machine are you going to buy - enquiring minds want to know!
ReplyDeleteOhh..I hope you find one with the stitches you want. Make sure and post pics of your new "secret". I'm so excite for you!
ReplyDeleteI've got a Simplicity Quilters Classic and it's not a fancy machine - I do love it. It's a very econimical machine with lots of features that people love on the top of the line ones. I bought it from my local sewing center who let me trade in my old one, which took $60 off the price, so I only paid $100. Some day when the kids get a little older I'd love to buy a really nice machine with embroidery! Can't wait to see what you get. :)
ReplyDeleteI am an ameture sewer, have to take a lesson on how to use my Singer. I just love to keep up with what project my MIL is up too.
