House Inspection

The house inspection was today. It was so bad that I can't even talk about it. Thank goodness I spent the money on an inspector! Bottom line is that unless the seller comes up with about $25,000 (!!!) in repairs, I am not going anywhere!

I couldn't make myself go in to the office after the inspection. I came home and put on my jammies. (Picture pathetic!)

I am going to a wine and cheese tasting this evening. I will probably taste more wine than cheese...

  1. Oh Suzan--I'm sorry to hear that but wow did you dodge a bullet! That house sounds like it has some issues. Count your blessings, keep looking--the right domocile will present itself. Enjoy your wine (and maybe cheese) tonight--you earned it!

  4. that's why there are inspections! my dh and I were so excited about a house a few months ago so we had a friend of the family do an "informal inspection"... it was a situation very similar to yours. we are glad that we didn't go through with an offer on that house for certain! we are much happier now... after a year plus of home searching! I can officially say now that it's frustrating as heck, but the right thing will always come along! good luck - enjoy the wine!

  5. So much better to find out now - instead of after the fact.

You may have to keep looking -

  7. Oh Suzan, I'm sorry to hear that. Look at it this way - maybe you'll find another house with an even bigger sewing studio and it might even have a few more kitchen cupboards. Seriously, I'm sure you must be so disappointed but it just wasn't meant to be.

  8. Suzan, I am sorry. Either way, it should be a win-win situation. If the owner pays, the repairs should be done. If he doesn't, it wasn't meant to be, and your perfect home is waiting for you. Don't give up. Cheer up, and enjoy your evening.

  9. Thank goodness you had the inspection! I think things happen for a reason and they'll either fix it and it will be a better home- or you'll find a better home! Enjoy the wine.

  10. You really can't lose here. If the seller wants to sell that badly, you'll get a real bargain and if not, you won't be stuck with a lemon. I know it's disappointing but better to know now than later. Maybe the "perfect" house for you is still out there waiting for ya!
    Hang in there ....

  11. So sorry to hear that the house didn't work out, but glad you didn't get saddled with a money pit. House inspections are an absolute must, aren't they? I bet the problems weren't at all visible to the untrained eye. Keep your spirits up (but maybe not your wineglass!). The house for you is out there.

  14. Oh Suzan!! I am so sorry to hear that. But better to know now than later. How could they hide $25K in repairs?????

Something will come up, have faith.

  16. Inspections are always worth their weight in gold. Good thing you discovered the house's faults now. Who knows - the owners may remedy these things since the house won't sell otherwise.

By the way, check my blog, I'm tagging you. HEHEHEHEHEHE!
    Hugs,
    Cathy

  17. Hi Suzan,

I hadn't visited you in a few days, and thought to check on you on the move situation.

So sorry to hear about the latest development. I guess at least you find out before it's too late.

I hope the rest of your day goes better for you.

  19. Yikes! That's a lot of repairs, isn't it? Like you said, how lucky to have an inspection done. We lost a house to an inspection once, and even though it broke my heart, that house was in horrible shape. It was a good thing we didn't buy it.
I'm glad you had a wine and cheese tasting to go to afterward! I hope it raised your spirits as you raised your glass.
